Galicia Proton Therapy Centre Secures €14 M Deal After Ortega Donation

The Amancio Ortega Foundation pledged €280 million to fund the installation of proton‑therapy facilities in Spain. The donation has triggered an additional €35 million of public investment from the Xunta de Galicia, of which almost €20 million will fund the construction of the new centre in Santiago, housing IBA’s Proteus One cyclotron.

The regional health service (Sergas) has released a tender for €14.487 million to supply, install and maintain high‑technology medical imaging equipment for the centre, including a hybrid PET/MR scanner and an advanced photon‑counting CT system. The contract’s seven‑and‑a‑half‑year term includes a full maintenance package. Installation work is expected to be completed within six months, with the centre targeted to become operational by late 2024 or early 2027.
