Galicia pushes for Atlantic Corridor upgrades and biotech strategy funding

Regional business federations from Galicia, Asturias and León met with EU transport officials in Brussels, urging the Spanish central government to adopt a definitive plan to accelerate the Atlantic Corridor. They highlighted the need for completed rail links such as Vigo‑Ourense‑Monforte and A Coruña‑Lugo‑Monforte, as well as a high‑speed connection to the meseta, arguing that these investments are essential for the competitiveness, territorial cohesion and integration of north‑west Spain into trans‑European transport networks.

In parallel, Galician President Alfonso Rueda presented the region’s 2026‑2030 Biotechnology Strategy, a roadmap backed by €805 million ( €563 million public and €242 million private). The plan targets a 30 % increase in sector turnover, a 20 % rise in employment and research staff, and aims to position Galicia as a leading European hub in marine resources, bioeconomy, food‑tech and health‑pharma. The strategy was detailed by Innovation Agency director Carmen Cotelo and endorsed by regional ministers for education and industry.
