Galicia records driest spring in 36 years

MeteoGalicia reports that the 2026 spring (March‑May) in Galicia was the driest since 1990, with an average precipitation of 160 L / m²—46 % below normal and the fourth lowest on record. Rainfall was highest (225‑260 L / m²) along the Atlantic strip and eastern mountain ranges, while the lowest amounts (115‑130 L / m²) occurred in Valdeorras, interior Lugo and the Gulf of Artabro. March and April were markedly dry; May returned to typical levels thanks to thunderstorms in the east.

Temperatures were unusually warm, with a mean of 13.7 °C, an anomaly of +1.4 °C. A warm continental air mass was expected to push maximum temperatures above 30 °C in Vigo, Ourense and Pontevedra.
