Galicia regains three teams in Liga Endesa basketball elite

The upcoming Liga Endesa season will see a significant return of representation from the Galicia region. For the first time in 32 years, three Galician teams—Río Breogán, Monbus Obradoiro, and Leyma Coruña—will compete in Spain's top-tier basketball league. This marks a major shift from the 1990s, when the region saw a similar presence before several clubs faced economic difficulties and eventual disappearance.

Monbus Obradoiro returns to the elite as the Primera FEB 2025-26 champion, boasting a dominant record of 28 wins and 4 losses. The team aims to maintain stability through a core group of players including Sergi Quintela and Álex Barcello.

In addition to regional shifts, the league continues to rely heavily on veteran leadership. Established players such as Ricky Rubio, Nicolás Laprovittola, Marcelinho Huertas, Sergio Llull, and Edy Tavares remain central figures in driving the success of their respective clubs, including Joventut, Tenerife, and Real Madrid.
