Galicia sees record tax deferral requests in 2025

Taxpayers in Galicia have requested record-breaking tax deferrals and installments in 2025. According to the Axencia Tributaria de Galicia (Atriga), 3,572 taxpayers requested extensions totaling 26.3 million euros, marking the highest volume and value in the last nine years.

The majority of these requests are concentrated in taxes related to housing and inheritance. Specifically, 12 million euros were requested for Inheritance and Gift Tax, while 8 million euros were requested for Property Transfer Tax and Documented Legal Acts.

While the mechanism allows for both deferring payments to a later date or splitting debts into installments, both options incur late payment interest. The rise in requests is attributed to economic pressures and inflation, mirroring trends seen during previous economic downturns.
