Galicia subsidized education teachers strike on first day of school
Teachers in Galicia's subsidized education sector (enseñanza concertada) launched a strike on the first day of the school year, protesting salary and labor conditions. According to unions including CCOO, FSIE, UGT, FeUSO, SNEP, and CIG, the strike saw a participation rate exceeding 60%.
The strike affects approximately 7,000 teachers and represents nearly 30% of the Galician educational system. Union leaders have accused the regional Ministry of Education of ignoring previous demands and treating workers with disrespect. They have warned of further mobilizations if the administration does not respond to their claims for better working conditions and wage improvements.
To mitigate the impact, the Xunta de Galicia established minimum services, requiring centers to maintain 20% of teaching and complementary staff. These measures were implemented to ensure the safety, supervision, and custody of underage students while allowing schools to remain open during the scheduled strike hours.
