Galicia to announce 1,500 teaching positions by 2027
The Galician regional government (Xunta) has announced plans to open approximately 1,500 teaching positions in the summer of 2027. Education Counselor Román Rodríguez presented the department's budget in the Galician Parliament, noting that the final number of vacancies will depend on retirements and other staff leaves, aiming for a 120% replacement rate.
The education budget will rise by 7.5% to 3.32 billion euros, with nearly 2 billion euros allocated to payroll. This includes a planned 5% salary increase for staff in both public and subsidized (concertada) education.
Other key initiatives include a 7.3% increase in funding for school cafeterias, reaching 70.3 million euros, and 72.6 million euros for infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of the Domingo Villar institute in Vigo. The government also plans to establish a support office for teachers and implement new sanctions to address aggression in educational centers. Curricular updates will focus on improving reading and mathematics skills in primary and secondary education.
