Galicia to lose all representation in top-tier trainera rowing league

Galician rowing faces a historic crisis as the region is set to lose all its representation in the Asociación de Clubes de Traineras (ACT) for the first time in 24 years. Following the relegation of Chapela Wofco and the recent playoff performance of Ares, no Galician boats will compete in the Eusko Label Liga, the highest level of fixed-bench rowing, by 2027.

The absence of Galician teams in the top tier will result in a league composed entirely of Basque boats, as Cantabria also lacks representation. This decline affects both men's and women's categories, including the Euskotren Liga.

Reports indicate that Galician clubs have consistently competed under economic disadvantages compared to Basque clubs, which benefit from greater financial resources and fewer travel requirements. This economic gap has also allowed Basque teams to recruit top Galician rowers. Historically, Galicia saw its best results with Mecos taking second place in 2003, while clubs like Tirán Pereira and Cabo da Cruz achieved fourth-place finishes.
