Galician BNG accuses local authorities of blocking cultural events and inter‑municipal reforms

The Galician nationalist bloc BNG has criticised municipal administrations in two separate disputes. In Vigo, BNG leaders charged mayor Abel Caballero’s council with "boycotting" community‑organised events, citing prolonged permit delays, insufficient municipal staff and a lack of financial support. The bloc described the Concellería de Seguridade’s handling of permits as "institutional sabotage", pointing to recent San Juan bonfires and other cultural activities that were approved only hours before they were due to start. The city government replied that it follows the law, has authorised numerous sports and cultural events and that any requirements apply equally to all organisations.

In the Val de Miñor region, BNG accused the PSOE‑ and PP‑led mayors of Baiona, Gondomar and Nigrán of thwarting a reform of the Mancomunidade de Concellos. Proposed amendments aimed to broaden political participation, restore historic competencies such as water and sanitation services, promote the Galician language and advance equality and anti‑violence measures. The council rejected most of these proposals, concentrating decision‑making power in the presidency and eliminating shared‑governance structures. BNG warned that the missed reforms represent a lost opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation and democratic representation.
