Galician BNG demands inclusion of As Mariñas municipalities in A Coruña metropolitan area
The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has urged that all municipalities belonging to the Consorcio As Mariñas be incorporated into the proposed metropolitan area of A Coruña. The party accuses mayor Inés Rey of pursuing a short‑sighted, electorally motivated plan ahead of the 2027 elections, claiming the initiative excludes several towns despite their expressed interest. Rey invited Arteixo, Oleiros, Cambre and Culleredo to discuss the proposal; only Arteixo and Oleiros attended, while the Consorcio As Mariñas – which includes Abegondo, Bergondo, Betanzos, Carral, Sada, Oleiros, Cambre and Culleredo – criticised the limited participation. BNG called for a broader, inclusive approach that would involve all willing municipalities, civil society entities, and the use of the legal framework that created the Vigo metropolitan area, emphasizing the need for a shared competence and service charter.
