Galician coast guards seize 372 kg of seafood and 1,300 illegal fishing devices

Gardacostas de Galicia, under the Consellería do Mar, seized more than 372 kilograms of various fish and shellfish species and approximately 1,300 illegal fishing devices during the week of August 17 to August 23. The enforcement operations resulted in 31 notices of alleged infractions and seizures across the Galician coastline.

Operational units from Ferrol, Portosín, Muxía, Vigo, and Central Services conducted the actions via land patrols and vessels, including the Valentín Paz Andrade and Mar de Galicia. The inspections covered the rías of Ferrol, Arousa, Pontevedra, Vigo, and Muros-Noia, as well as coastal areas such as Camariñas, Corcubión, and O Ézaro.

Among the confiscated gear were 1,215 nasas (mostly for octopus) and 61 cacharros, along with several bags and a buoy. The seized seafood included 269.5 kg of octopus, 44.1 kg of velvet crab, 25 kg of razor clam, 11.5 kg of spider crab, and various smaller quantities of conger eel, Japanese clam, lobster, and red clam.
