Galician government urged to launch emergency plan for book sector

The Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG) has called on the Xunta de Galicia to adopt an urgent plan to protect books published in Galician, citing a deepening crisis in the regional editorial sector. The party points to the growing debt of the Consorcio Editorial Galego as a new threat to the viability of the literary system and blames the People's Party (PP) for seventeen years of policies that have harmed Galician publishing.

BNG deputy Mercedes Queixas urged the regional executive to recognise the Galician book market as a strategic sector and to provide extraordinary financial support that would restore the consortium’s liquidity, safeguard distribution and creation of works in the Galician language, and protect hundreds of jobs linked to the industry.
