Galician marine conservation efforts focus on cleanup and clam restocking

Environmental conservation efforts are underway in Galicia, Spain, through marine cleanup and species restocking initiatives.

In Corrubedo, volunteers from Afundación collected 165 kilograms of marine debris at Ladeira beach as part of the Plancton Territorial Conservation Plan. The waste, which included batea sticks, cigarette butts, ropes, and various plastic fragments, was collected to help protect coastal ecosystems and raise public awareness.

Simultaneously, the A Coruña fishermen's guild has seeded approximately 1.1 million clams (Venerupis corrugata) in the Ría do Burgo. This restocking effort, funded by the Consellería do Mar, aims to regenerate biomass and support local shellfish harvesting activities. The intervention involved distributing nearly 990 kilograms of clam seeds across strategic areas, including the Canle da Ría and Canle Principal banks.
