Galician municipalities award management contracts for nursery schools
Municipalities in Galicia have announced new management contracts for their nursery school systems.
In Vigo, the city council has awarded the management of the Atalaia de Teis nursery school for 1.4 million euros. This includes an annual investment of approximately 350,000 euros to ensure services remain free for families. Additionally, the council has allocated 80,000 euros to waterproof the school's terrace to resolve water leakage issues. The mayor noted that the city continues to provide free nursery school places, covering costs such as dining services.
In A Coruña, the local government approved the management of its eight municipal nursery schools with a total budget of 3.2 million euros. While officials state the move will expand services and improve working conditions, the decision has faced criticism from parent associations regarding transparency and the potential impact of changing management providers. The city has assured that existing staff will be subrogated to maintain current workforce levels.
