Galician political leaders clash over funding and water supply in Vigo
Political tensions are rising in Vigo as regional and local leaders debate infrastructure and funding. Alfonso Rueda, President of the Xunta de Galicia and leader of the PPdeG, held a rally in Vigo to express full support for Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Rueda positioned Galicia as a ‘motor of change’ against the central government, demanding that the administration fulfill its financial and infrastructure commitments to the region without reducing investments or rights.
In contrast, the Vigo city government, led by Abel Caballero of the PSOE, is escalating demands toward the Xunta. Caballero plans to present motions requesting at least 20 million euros in ‘unconditional financing’ to comply with constitutional resource distribution. Additionally, the local government is calling on the Xunta to take urgent measures to guarantee the city's water supply, including the construction of a new reservoir upstream of the Eiras River, accusing the regional government of being a mere ‘spectator’ to the local water crisis.
