Galician President defends Employment Counselor over winery labor sanctions

The family winery of Galicia’s Employment Counselor, José González, has issued a statement defending itself against labor inspection sanctions. The company, a subsidiary of Viña Campinas S. L., was fined approximately 10,001 euros per worker after three seasonal workers were found to be in an irregular administrative situation during the 2025 harvest.

The winery claims it did not knowingly hire undocumented workers, asserting that it relies on temporary employment agencies (ETTs) and requires documentation and Social Security registration for all personnel. The company stated that during an inspection, three individuals provided by an ETT did not match the identities previously communicated, with one person allegedly using the documentation of a correctly contracted worker.

Alfonso Rueda, President of the Xunta, has publicly defended the explanations provided by Counselor González regarding the incident. Rueda also addressed concerns regarding over 760,000 euros in regional subsidies granted to the winery, maintaining that all administrative aid is distributed in strict compliance with the law.
