Galician SPIF workers protest for professional reclassification

More than 200 workers from the Forest Fire Prevention and Defense Service (SPIF) of the Xunta de Galicia have organized a protest in Santiago de Compostela to demand a review of their professional classification. The collective of Vixiantes-Emisoristas argues that their current job designation does not reflect the technical complexity and high level of responsibility required by their roles.

Beyond simple communications, these workers manage the real-time reception, validation, and tracking of forest fire alerts. Their duties include monitoring the availability of human and material resources, coordinating ground and air assets, and maintaining constant communication with command levels during emergencies. The group maintains that the precision and speed of their information management are critical to the effectiveness of emergency responses.
