Galicia’s Camino de Santiago sees record pilgrim flow, with Sarria’s new 6‑day guide and Tui ranking second for départs

The stretch from Sarria remains the most popular starting point of the Camino Francés, allowing pilgrims to complete the required 100 km to Santiago. A new guide proposes dividing the route into six stages, reducing daily mileage and offering a more relaxed experience for beginners and those seeking extra time to enjoy the Galician landscape, villages and gastronomy.

In June, the town of Tui recorded 15,226 pilgrim departures on the Portuguese Camino, a 19 % increase over the same month last year, making it the second‑most used departure point in Galicia after Sarria. About 68 % of these pilgrims were foreign nationals, chiefly from Portugal (14.7 %), the United States (11.7 %), Italy (7.2 %) and Germany (4.9 %). Spanish pilgrims originated mainly from Andalucía, Madrid, Valencia, the Canary Islands and Catalonia.
