Galicia's Q2 2026 GDP growth lags Spain as Portugal tourism makes up 16% of national GDP in 2025

The Autonomous Community of Galicia recorded a 0.6% increase in gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2026, falling short of the national Spanish average of 0.7%. The figures were released by the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF), headed by Inés Olóndriz, and show inter‑annual growth of 2.5% compared with 2.7% for Spain as a whole.

In Portugal, the tourism sector contributed €36.2 billion to the economy in 2025, representing 16.1% of total GDP and 11.4% of the economy’s gross value added, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE). Although tourism remains a major driver, its share of real GDP growth fell slightly from previous years.
