Galicia's Xunta Exhausts €1.5 Million Housing Subsidy Fund
The regional government of Galicia (Xunta) has awarded 129 subsidies for the purchase of protected housing, depleting the €1.5 million budget allocated to the program. The grants, funded entirely from autonomous funds, were announced by Housing and Infrastructure Minister María Martínez Allegue during a meeting with beneficiaries in A Coruña, the city that received the most aid (69 of the total).
The subsidies vary by municipality and buyer age. In the seven higher‑price cities (A Coruña, Ferrol, Santiago de Compostela, Lugo, Ourense, Pontevedra and Vigo), assistance can reach up to €20,000 for buyers under 36 and €16,000 for those 36 or older. In the remaining Galician municipalities, the maximum is €16,000 for under‑36 buyers and €12,000 for older purchasers. The Xunta also highlighted the ongoing "Aval Mozo" scheme, which covers up to 20 % of the mortgage guarantee, and announced that the next call will raise the age limit from 36 to 45 years.
