Galleria Borghese hosts rare Titian exhibition in Rome
The Galleria Borghese in Rome is hosting a specialized exhibition titled ‘Titian: Dialogues between Sacred and Profane’ from 20 October to 8 December 2026. The exhibition features a rare loan of Titian’s ‘Annunciation’, painted in 1520 for the Malchiostro Chapel in Treviso Cathedral.
Curated by Maria Giovanna Sarti, the exhibition is designed as a ‘dossier exhibition’ to facilitate a direct comparison between the loaned altarpiece and the museum’s own ‘Sacred and Profane Love’ (1514-15). The two works, painted within six years of each other, allow viewers to observe Titian’s consistent use of specific models of female beauty and formal methods across both religious and allegorical subjects.
The loan of the Treviso altarpiece is made possible by the Diocese of Treviso and is part of the commemorative program for the 450th anniversary of Titian’s death.
