Galliera Hospital promotes surgical prehabilitation for patients
Galliera Hospital in Genoa is participating in the first World Prehabilitation Day on September 16. The initiative focuses on prehabilitation, a personalized approach to preparing patients for surgery through physical, nutritional, and psychological programs.
This method aims to optimize patient health before entering the operating room by addressing factors such as physical activity, diet, smoking cessation, and stress management. The approach is often integrated into Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols, which utilize multidisciplinary models to improve perioperative care and recovery.
To mark the event, Galliera Hospital will provide educational videos featuring specialists, including an anesthesiologist, a dietitian, a physiotherapist, and a psychologist. These resources will address common concerns such as anesthesia preparation, nutrition, and managing surgical anxiety. Patients will also have the opportunity to participate in a ‘Prehab Challenge’ quiz.
