Gallimard publishes debut novel ‘Toni’ by Rumena Buzharovska

The prestigious French publishing house Gallimard has published ‘Toni’, the first novel by Macedonian writer Rumena Buzharovska. This marks the third work by Buzharovska to be recognized and published by the Paris-based publisher, following her short story collections ‘My Husband’ (2022) and ‘I Am Going Nowhere’ (2025).

Described by France Culture as a writer who ‘breaks all taboos with relentless humor’, Buzharovska’s novel explores themes of masculinity, urban life, and tradition through a style characterized as both bitter and witty. The work has already seen translations and publications in Spain, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Future releases are planned for Albania, Portugal, the United States, and Greece.
