Gallipoli: Two police officers injured in assault by 27-year-old man

A 27-year-old Gambian national has been arrested in Gallipoli after attacking two police officers during an intervention on the Galileo Galilei seafront near Baia Verde.

The incident began when authorities responded to reports of a man throwing stones in a crowded tourist area. Upon arrival, officers found the individual in a state of high agitation. Despite attempts to use a taser to subdue him, the man continued his behavior, eventually striking one officer in the head with a wooden chair leg used as a club.

One officer sustained a head wound requiring stitches and a 15-day medical prognosis, while a second officer suffered hand injuries with a 20-day prognosis. The assault was eventually halted with the assistance of an off-duty member of the Guardia di Finanza. The suspect, who was already known to law enforcement, faces charges of resistance and injury.
