Galo Toledo, Ecuadorian basketball legend, dies at 96

Galo Aldo Toledo Cortéz, a prominent figure in Ecuadorian basketball, passed away on August 20 at the age of 96. Toledo was a key player during the golden era of the sport in the 1940s and 1950s.

He is most notably associated with Los Ferroviarios, a team that became a sporting symbol for Durán and a major competitor in Guayaquil. During his career, Toledo played alongside several legendary national figures, including Pablo and Gilberto Sandiford, Nicolás Lapenti, and Juan Salas.

His tenure with Los Ferroviarios was marked by significant achievements, including international matches such as a victory against the Chinese national team and participation in the South American Club Championship and competitions in Lima. His basketball legacy continues through his son, Fabricio, and grandson, Juan Fernando.
