Gamal Abdel Nasser discusses his grandfather's political legacy in Bulgaria
Gamal Abdel Nasser, grandson of the former Egyptian president, visited Bulgaria at the invitation of political activist Gabriela Kirova, co-founder of the New World Institute for Strategic Thinking. During a discussion on the program ‘Our Day’, Nasser addressed his grandfather’s political legacy and the historical ties between Bulgaria and Egypt.
Nasser defended his grandfather’s reputation regarding democracy, stating that the former leader sought to build a social society where everyone has a voice. He emphasized that the president’s primary goals were to achieve Egyptian independence, eliminate foreign dominance, remove feudalism, and reduce the influence of large capital on political power.
According to his grandson, the three pillars of the former president’s vision were social justice, a strong military, and a democratic system. Nasser explained that social justice involved expanding the middle class and empowering Egyptian farmers. To support these claims, the grandson has published recordings from the late 1970s intended to demonstrate the former president’s commitment to pluralism and democracy.
