Gambia Opposition UNITE and NUP Ally to Unseat President Barrow in 2026 Election

Leaders of the UNITE Party and the National Unity Party (NUP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding at a ceremony in the Pencha MI Hall, Paradise Suites Hotel, formalising a political alliance aimed at defeating President Adama Barrow in the December 2026 presidential election. UNITE leader Talib Ahmed Bensouda and NUP leader Dr. Lamin J. Darboe presented the pact as a commitment to shared principles of constitutional governance, rule of law and accountability, rather than electoral convenience.

The alliance pledges to address what they call the “Three Cs”—cost of living, crime and corruption—and calls on other opposition groups to join the coalition to present a unified challenge to the Barrow administration. Both parties intend to field a joint presidential ticket of Bensouda and Darboe, promising a government focused on national development, public‑resource management and citizen empowerment.
