Gambia River water levels show mixed trends during rainy season

Water levels along the Gambia River are showing mixed trends as the rainy season progresses. According to the latest hydrological bulletin from the Tambacounda/Kédougou Water Resources Brigade, some monitoring stations have recorded notable rises, while others have seen declines.

In southeastern Senegal, the Gouloumbou station recorded a significant daily increase of 14 centimeters, rising to 5.48 meters. Mako also saw a slight increase of three centimeters. Conversely, water levels fell at Kédougou, Simenti, Diaguiri, and Niokolokoba.

Despite these fluctuations, none of the monitored locations have reached their designated alert thresholds. The rise at Gouloumbou remains 6.52 meters below its 12-meter alert level, and Mako remains 2.32 meters below its six-meter threshold. Continued monitoring remains essential for the region, as the river supports vital agriculture, fisheries, and economic activities in The Gambia.
