Gambian Opposition Leader Ousainou Darboe Urges Senegal President to Halt Border Farm Evictions

Opposition leader Ousainou Darboe appealed to Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, asking that Gambian farmers be allowed to finish their harvest on disputed border lands. Darboe warned that removing farmers mid‑season would destroy an entire crop and urged that any border talks wait until after the farming season, emphasizing the cultural and religious ties between the two neighbours.

At a rally in Kiang Jifarong, Darboe also pledged that a United Democratic Party (UDP) government would put agriculture first, promising higher groundnut prices and greater support for farmers. He criticised President Adama Barrow’s focus on road projects, arguing that infrastructure alone does not meet the needs of ordinary Gambians and that boosting agricultural incomes should be a priority for the next administration.
