game association releases first transparency report and industry data

The German games industry association, game, has released its first transparency report, providing insights into the organization's structures, decision-making processes, finances, and communications for the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

The report also includes significant industry statistics for Germany, noting that there are approximately 41.2 million gamers in the country with an average age of 38.3 years.

Data regarding purchasing habits shows a shift toward digital formats. In 2025, downloads accounted for 69 percent of all game purchases. However, patterns vary by platform: 99 percent of PC games are purchased via download, whereas only 42 percent of console games are digital, marking a 2 percent decrease from 2024. Age also influences purchasing methods, with only 18 percent of gamers aged 20 to 29 opting for physical media, compared to 40 percent of those aged 40 to 59.
