Game Freak says Beast of Reincarnation’s photorealistic style breaks studio’s tradition
Game Freak director Kota Furushima told DenFamiNicoGamer that the upcoming action‑RPG Beast of Reincarnation uses photorealistic graphics, a visual direction that “doesn’t match our style” of the company best known for the colourful Pokémon franchise. The studio chose realism because it fits the game’s concept and offers a fresh challenge, noting that Game Freak is not bound to a single aesthetic. Furushima explained that the realistic look even makes the game’s country of origin hard to identify. The title also introduces a wolf companion called Koo, linking it to familiar Pokémon‑style collaborations.
The shift represents a notable aesthetic experiment for Game Freak, which has previously produced titles such as Drill Dozer, Tembo the Badass Elephant and Little Town Hero with simpler, cartoon‑like visuals.
