Game of Thrones franchise expands with new series and stage projects

The Game of Thrones franchise continues to expand with several upcoming projects. Following the conclusion of the third season of House of the Dragon, a fourth and final season is planned for 2028. This season is expected to consist of eight episodes and will depict the Targaryen civil war known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

Additionally, the spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which premiered in January 2026, has been renewed for a second season. New episodes featuring the adventures of Sir Duncan and his squire Egg are anticipated to arrive in early 2027 and may include settings such as Dorne.

For those seeking the immediate backstory of the original series, the stage play “The Mad King” offers a live look at the events surrounding Aerys II Targaryen. The production focuses on the reign of the Mad King, a central figure in the Westeros saga and the father of Daenerys Targaryen.
