Game Science sequel inspired by Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

Game Science has confirmed that the sequel to ‘Black Myth: Wukong’, titled ‘Zhong Kui’, will draw inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster film ‘The Odyssey’. The upcoming single-player action role-playing game will be rooted in ancient Chinese fantasy, specifically the classic folktale ‘Zhong Kui Banishing Evil’.

Art director Yang Qi stated that the development team intends to utilize traditional techniques rather than relying on AI-generated content for the design and asset phases. This approach is partly motivated by the success of Nolan’s practical-effects-heavy filmmaking style.

Separately, Christopher Nolan revealed that the opening text of ‘The Odyssey’ was influenced by the iconic opening crawl of ‘Star Wars’. He noted that the use of specific framing text was intended to prepare the audience for the film's world and its magical elements. ‘The Odyssey’ has become the highest-grossing film of Nolan’s career.
