Gamer Hut halts Marvel's Wolverine pre-orders over discount coupon dispute

The Brazilian retailer Gamer Hut has ceased pre-orders for the upcoming Insomniac Games title, Marvel's Wolverine, on the Shopee platform. The store cited an external demand that required them to either block the use of Shopee's platform-provided discount coupons or stop selling the game.

Gamer Hut released a statement explaining that they refused to comply with the demand because the coupons are provided by Shopee to make physical media more affordable for consumers, rather than being funded by the retailer itself. The store stated, “Players should have the freedom to choose where to buy and take advantage of the benefits offered on a given platform.”

While the retailer did not explicitly name Sony, speculation has linked the pressure to the company or its distributors. The incident occurs amid broader discussions regarding the future of physical media, following PlayStation's previous announcement that it will cease manufacturing discs for new games starting in 2028.
