Gamescom 2026 highlights gaming accessibility and community engagement
At the 2026 gamescom in Cologne, Germany, the world's largest video game trade fair, various organizations highlighted social inclusion and community engagement. The Gaming ohne Grenzen Award, supported by congstar, recognized achievements in gaming accessibility across nine categories. Notable winners included Tiny Bookshop, which received both the National and Community Choice awards, and Forza Horizon 6, which earned the International Award for its accessibility features like AutoDrive and screen reader support.
Other award recipients included the QuadStick controller for its mouth-operated technology, Marlene Beilharz for her advocacy work, and Games for Blind Gamers for the Get Together Award. The event also featured a presence from the Protestant Youth of Cologne and Region, which participated in the fair for the 14th consecutive year to engage with young people in their digital environment through interactive offers and personal dialogue.
