Ukraine marks 35th independence anniversary with new missile and defense commitments
Ukraine marked its 35th anniversary of independence with a major diplomatic summit in Kyiv. During the event, the United Kingdom announced it would share the necessary technical details to allow Ukraine to manufacture its own Storm Shadow missiles locally. This follows a similar move by France in July.
To bolster air defenses, the European Commission approved 6.1 billion euros for the procurement of anti-aircraft systems, ammunition, and radar technology. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also highlighted a significant gap in air defense resources, noting a decline in Patriot missile system deliveries and requesting at least 300 additional units before winter.
On the military front, Ukrainian drones conducted strikes against Russian logistics, including a large distribution center in Dagestan. Meanwhile, UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo warned the conflict is in a 'dangerous spiral,' noting that July was one of the deadliest months since the invasion began. Recent clashes in the Zaporiyia and Krasnodar regions resulted in at least two deaths.
