Gamescom: Indie developer's equipment stolen overnight

Indie game developer Ryan Laley reported that his participation in Gamescom 2026 in Cologne was effectively cut short after thieves stole multiple laptops from his booth overnight. Laley, who was showcasing his asymmetrical multiplayer horror game ‘Mimic’, stated that the theft included his Alienware laptop and several other devices belonging to other exhibitors.

Laley described the incident as a significant financial and mental blow, noting that while police reports have been filed, he has little hope of recovering the equipment. The theft reportedly occurred in the business area, where unknown individuals gained access to the booths after hours.

Following the news, the gaming community has offered support. YouTuber Indie Game Joe publicly offered to fund the replacement of the stolen equipment to assist the solo developer.
