GameStop reports record Q2 operating income and raises annual outlook

GameStop has reported record operating income of $160.2 million for its second fiscal quarter, despite a decline in total revenue to $790.2 million. The company's net income reached approximately $298.7 million, surpassing analyst expectations. This revenue decrease follows previous store closures and the divestment of French operations.

Following these results, GameStop director Lawrence Cheng purchased 55,000 shares through Cheng Capital LLC, a transaction valued at roughly $1.03 million. The company also maintains a significant 9.8% stake in eBay, currently valued at approximately $4.9 billion, following CEO Ryan Cohen’s previous interest in acquiring the e-commerce platform.

In its updated financial outlook, GameStop raised its full-year adjusted EBITDA forecast to over $650 million. Additionally, the retailer modified an agreement regarding the retirement of $1.4 billion in zero-interest convertible debt due in 2030 and 2032.
