Xbox Project Helix to feature a family of gaming devices

Microsoft is preparing for its next generation of gaming hardware, codenamed Project Helix, which will move away from a single-console model toward a “family of devices.” According to internal communications from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, the strategy for the tenth generation (Gen-10) aims to provide options for different player profiles, including a primary high-performance console and mobile/handheld options for players on the go.

Microsoft plans to manufacture some hardware in-house while partnering with other companies for different devices. Technical details confirmed include a partnership with AMD to provide a custom SoC featuring RDNA 5 graphics architecture and 3nm manufacturing. The hardware is expected to support both Xbox and PC gaming with a focus on high-end performance and AI-driven rendering.

In addition to hardware shifts, Sharma indicated that Xbox is working to make the Game Pass service more “flexible for more players.” The transition to Project Helix is expected to occur between late 2027 and 2028, as the company seeks to return to growth following recent market shifts.
