Gaming industry leaders discuss AI and new creative education initiatives
Leading figures in the gaming industry are highlighting the intersection of creative education and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
Seian Design University has announced the establishment of a new Game and Animation field for April 2027. To commemorate this, the university released special lecture videos featuring industry experts Takashi Hamamura, a veteran developer of the ‘Kirby’ series, and concept artist Yuuri. The curriculum will offer specialized courses in game graphics, 3DCG, and animation to prepare students for professional visual production.
Separately, Ken Kutaragi, known as the ‘Father of PlayStation,’ spoke at the opening ceremony of the Center for Entertainment Creation Research and Education (CEREC) at The University of Electro-Communications. Kutaragi discussed the evolution of game development, noting that the industry is approaching a tipping point. He emphasized the potential of AI to act as a ‘partner’ in development, suggesting that AI could enable small, agile teams to produce high-quality content that currently requires hundreds of people, potentially transforming the production of AAA titles.
