Control Resonant receives mixed reviews ahead of September launch
Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming title, Control Resonant, is receiving highly varied critical reviews ahead of its September 24, 2026, release. The game marks a significant genre shift for the studio, moving from the third-person shooter mechanics of the original Control to a melee-focused action-adventure RPG set in an expanded, open-zone Manhattan.
Critics are divided on this new direction. While many praise the visually striking environments, advanced ray tracing, and the intense combat involving the shape-shifting weapon known as the Aberrant, others have criticized the melee combat as repetitive and the protagonist, Dylan Faden, as lacking charisma compared to his sister Jesse. Technical performance also varies by platform; while the game showcases impressive graphics on high-end hardware like the RTX 5090 and PS5 Pro, some users have reported frame rate fluctuations and stability issues on standard consoles.
The narrative follows Dylan Faden as he attempts to navigate a Manhattan overrun by the Hiss entity. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with physical editions following in mid-October.
