Yusei Kikuchi struggles in rehab start amid Obon holiday promotions in Japan

Yusei Kikuchi, a 35-year-old pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, struggled in a recent rehabilitation appearance on August 15. Pitching for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga while recovering from left shoulder inflammation, Kikuchi allowed eight runs over five innings, including a seven-run first inning. Despite the high number of runs allowed, Kikuchi expressed satisfaction with reaching his goal of pitching five innings and stated he is ready to return to the Major Leagues.

However, his exact return date remains uncertain. Reports indicate that the Angels and Kikuchi have not yet established a specific timeline, and further rehabilitation starts may be required depending on his performance in upcoming outings.

In Japan, companies are responding to the end of the Obon holiday period. Following widespread social media discussions regarding the difficulty of returning to work, brands such as UCC, McDonald's Japan, and Lotte have launched various promotional campaigns and events to support workers transitioning back to their daily routines.
