Gamla Uppsala begins construction on new permanent school

Construction has officially begun on a new permanent school in Gamla Uppsala, Sweden. Following a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on September 7, work is expected to continue for the next two years at Vattholmavägen 93.

The new facility will replace a long-standing modular school setup. Designed to accommodate 420 students from preschool through sixth grade, the building will provide 120 additional school places compared to the previous arrangement. The two-story structure will include specialized spaces for extracurricular activities, a dining hall, and a kitchen capable of preparing 600 meals daily.

Erik Pelling, chairman of the municipal executive board, noted that the project addresses the needs of the popular residential area for families. The building is intended to be a long-term, sustainable solution that respects the local character of Gamla Uppsala.
