Gander, Canada becomes the setting for a chance meeting following 9/11

Two middle-aged individuals, Nick and Diana, found unexpected romance following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Nick, an electrical engineer from the United Kingdom, and Diana, a resident of Texas, USA, were both traveling when the attacks led to the closure of United States airspace.

A Continental Airlines flight carrying them from London to Houston was among 38 flights diverted to Gander, a small town in Newfoundland, Canada. During their five-day stay in the town, which housed nearly 6,700 diverted passengers, the two met while staying in the same temporary accommodation provided by the local United Fishermen's Union.

Despite having previously experienced failed marriages, the pair formed a deep connection while navigating the trauma of the attacks. Two months after the events in Gander, Nick proposed to Diana via telephone.
