Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations begin across India
Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated across India, marked by the installation of Lord Ganesha idols in homes and public pandals. In Maharashtra, major celebrations are underway in cities like Mumbai and Pune, featuring iconic sites such as Lalbaugcha Raja and the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati. The festival includes traditional rituals, processions, and cultural programs, with festivities expected to culminate in idol immersions on Anant Chaturdashi.
Political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various state officials, have extended greetings to the nation. US Ambassador Sergio Gor also visited Mumbai to participate in the local traditions at Lalbaugcha Raja.
Astrologically, the 2026 festival is noted for the rare occurrence of Bhadra and Malavya Panchamahapurush Rajyogas, appearing together for the first time in approximately 200 years. Religious observances also include specific guidelines regarding moon-sighting, which is traditionally avoided on this day to prevent misfortune.
