Karnataka prepares for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations
Preparations are underway across Karnataka for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, with authorities and community leaders focusing on logistics, safety, and tradition.
In Bengaluru, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has organized extensive infrastructure for the immersion of idols. This includes 42 artificial tanks or ponds and 659 mobile water tanks distributed across five city zones to ensure eco-friendly disposal and prevent water pollution. To streamline the process, 122 single-window centers have been established to facilitate the necessary permits for public idol installations.
In Chittapur, police officials have called for a peaceful and harmonious celebration. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankaragouda Patil emphasized the importance of maintaining social unity and urged festival committees to prioritize safety by appointing volunteers and using eco-friendly idols. Local authorities have also issued guidelines regarding noise control, specifically restricting the use of large DJ systems on vehicles like tractors or trucks to maintain public order.
On a domestic level, community guidance suggests involving children in festival rituals—such as preparing offerings and organizing prayer spaces—to teach them responsibility and cultural values.
