Ganga Expressway to be extended to Haridwar in ₹10,761 crore project

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the extension of the Ganga Expressway to Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The ambitious greenfield project is estimated to cost approximately ₹10,761 crore.

The proposed 130-kilometer, 6-lane corridor will be divided geographically, with roughly 100 kilometers located in Uttar Pradesh and the remaining 30 kilometers in Uttarakhand. The design allows for future expansion to 8 lanes to accommodate increasing traffic density. The project will be 100% funded by the Uttar Pradesh government, with no direct financial contribution from the central government.

This extension aims to connect two major religious hubs, Prayagraj and Haridwar, via a high-speed, access-controlled corridor, which is expected to significantly boost religious and spiritual tourism. Additionally, the project is intended to improve connectivity for the Bijnor district, reducing travel time to Haridwar and enhancing links to Lucknow, thereby stimulating local trade, investment, and economic activity.
