Flooding in India and China causes widespread displacement and fatalities

Severe flooding continues to impact multiple regions in Asia. In Assam, India, monsoon rains have displaced thousands of families. The True Impact Foundation and Bharat Benevita Foundation have provided relief to over 12,000 people across 24 villages in the Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, and Charaideo districts, including daily cooked meals and essential hygiene and medical kits. A month after the initial devastation, residents in Sivasagar continue to struggle with rebuilding lives, facing challenges from silt deposits and the loss of livestock and food reserves.

In Varanasi, India, the rising water levels of the Ganga have disrupted connectivity between riverfront ghats, forcing cremation activities at Manikarnika Ghat to move to rooftops. The river is currently approaching its danger mark.

In China, authorities have updated the death toll from Typhoon Maysak, which struck the Guangxi province in July. The official number of fatalities has risen to 159, with 10 people still missing. The disaster affected more than 1.65 million people, with significant casualties in Nanning resulting from the collapse of several dams. Economic damages in the affected cities are estimated at approximately 14 billion yuan.
