Gangbuk-gu receives Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation

Gangbuk-gu has been selected as the sole autonomous district in Seoul to receive the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation at the ‘2026 Traditional Market and Shopping District Vitalization Awards’. The award, organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, recognizes the district's efforts in supporting local commerce.

The district has implemented various modernization projects, such as installing cooling systems at Baeknyeon Market and improving traffic systems at Jangmiwon Alley Market. Additionally, a customer support center is being constructed at Suyu Traditional Market with an investment of approximately 4.16 billion won, scheduled for completion in 2028.

Cultural initiatives like the ‘Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival’ have also contributed to economic growth. The fourth annual festival saw an 187% increase in visitors and a 218% increase in sales compared to the previous year.
