Ganges River embankment breach causes flooding in Bhagalpur, Bihar
A section of the Kazikoreiya-Raghopur marginal embankment in the Naugachia area of Bhagalpur, Bihar, collapsed late Sunday night due to rising water levels and intense pressure from the Ganges River. The breach, spanning approximately 50 meters, has caused floodwaters to inundate residential areas and nearby fields.
The breach occurred near Shankarpur Tola and has significantly impacted the Raghopur region. Notably, the flooding reached the residence of Bihar Energy Minister Bulo Mandal, located about 500 meters from the site.
District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey and disaster management officials are monitoring the situation on-site. Technical teams from the Flood Control Department are conducting emergency protective work to control the water flow and prevent further erosion. However, the continuous rise in the Ganges' water level is complicating repair efforts. Local authorities have urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors while relief operations continue.
